Design a system that backs up files from many machines and restores them on demand. You may assume basic file operations exist; focus on how backups work.

Cover full versus incremental backups, chunking and deduplication, how changes are detected, where backup data lives and how it stays durable, restoring a file or a whole machine to a point in time, retention, and what happens when a backup is interrupted.
